Gayle Forman, April 2009. Tells the story of Mia, a high school cellist critically injured in a car accident. Her life is revealed through flashbacks as she decides how hard she wants to fight for her life.
There isn’t a whole lot of queer content in this book - just one character that the protagonist meets at band camp. His name is Simon, he’s her friend, and he’s gay. That’s it - no drama, nada. This would never have happened twenty years ago; a big thank you to the authors, librarians, teachers, and publishers who cleared the path to make this possible.
